Jessica Savitch was an American television broadcaster and news reporter. Her work quotes on TV put her ahead of many male colleagues. In 1977, she joined NBC News becoming the network’s first woman to anchor a weekend national newscast.
The journalist died on October 23, 1983, in a tragic car crash. Her life was so intense that was the subject of a made-for-TV movie: Almost Golden: The Jessica Savitch Story. The A&E special about her inspired Will Ferrell to make Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
